With an ever-growing selection of Hall effect gaming keyboards to choose from, it seems as though e-sports brand RAWM has opted for optical switch tech for its next keyboard, the Nyx60, which it has announced will launch on Kickstarter on September 3. The only other major player in the PC peripherals market still relying on optical switches is Razer, and even Razer recently launched the Huntsman V3 HE to complement its optical keyboard line-up.
The RAWM Nyx60's current listed MSRP is $199, but it will launch on Kickstarter with an early bird price of $99 for those who sign up with a $1 reservation. RAWM argues that optical switch tech provides more stable actuation detection than magnetic switches and sensors, and it claims to be the first gaming keyboard to offer "light-guided optical switches in a full aluminium keyboard.
It's currently unclear what, if anything, sets RAWM's switch tech apart from the prismatic designs we've already seen in Wooting and Razer's switches, but RAWM claims that the optical switch tech will offer 0.01 mm precision for both actuation and rapid trigger, and it says that the optical switches offer other benefits over HE, while offering all of the nifty analogue features, like RT, DKS, SOCD, and Mod Tap.
